After my little blog post on how to get Olivia Palermo hair, much to my delight I received a few questions asking me how I actually style my hair. For a girl who spends most of her time asking other people how they style theirs, to say I was flattered would be an understatement. I have the same hair style pretty much every day. This bouncy wave and the tousled curl are definitely my go to and they keep me feeling like ‘me.’ Luckily for us, this is a super quick and easy hair style that never feels or looks too ‘done’- making it perfect for everyday wear.
The ultimate wonder tool is the Babyliss Boutique Salon Soft Wave Hairstyler. I fell in love with this a couple of years ago, and the fact it’s under £35 only adds to its appeal. Before, anytime I’d have wanted to curl my hair, I’d have had to straighten it first to achieve an overall smooth finish. Of course, this meant my curls and waves fell out quicker. The Babyliss wand manages to smooth each strand as I go, meaning I can begin the curling process with my hairs natural texture (frizzy and poofy) and it still manages to create smooth curls that hold a lot better. Four heat settings allow you to style your hair according to its type. I use the second highest setting teamed with liberal amounts of heat protectant.
So, we’re well on our way to the bouncy waves we’ve always dreamed of. What I actually do here is section my hair using a big crocodile clip. Next, I’ll wrap sections around the barrel, count to five, then drop. Immediately after, I’ll twist the curl around my finger until its cool and then spritz with hairspray. I’ve learnt that this is a vital step. Twisting the curl until there’s no heat left allows the style to set, whereas if I just allow it to fall, it will lose its shape. I’ll repeat these steps until every section is curled, ensuring to spray each individual piece with hairspray. If I’m heading out and want more defined waves I’ll do smaller sections, but for a day to day look I’ll curl chunkier sections for a more tousled, natural style.
I hate hairspray. I despise anything that lends a sticky feel to hair as well as anything that has a strong chemical smell. But I also know it’s vital to keeping curls in place. I’ve found the classic L’oreal Elnett Supreme Hold to be the best option for me, plus one tin last forever. I’ll spray my whole head with this, but quite lightly. If I want more bounce and volume, I’ll tip my head upside down and spray along the underside of my hairline.
Next is Ojons Rare Blend Tamer -basically like a mascara wand with a clear serum that helps tame pesky fly always. I’ll use this on the broken hairs on the top of my head, as well as for smoothing any really obvious split ends across my tips. This really works to add little bit of sleekness to an otherwise natural and carefree hair style .My final step is to run my fingers through my hair to break up the curls and create soft waves, and ultimately, a lovely tousled look. So there we have it. My day-to-day, natural, bouncy style. Easy peasy.
