Described as ‘new and revolutionary,’ I first had the Olaplex treatment done by the balayage Queen herself, hairdresser Samantha Cusick. But just what is this relatively new and revolutionary hair Holy Grail, I hear you ask? At its most basic level, Olaplex is an upgrade service for hair colouring and now, for me, an integral part of the high-lighting/colour process. Remember your soft glossy pre-coloured hair from back in the day? Well, with the Olaplex system it’s actually possible to reverse the damage and regain the glory of your previously undamaged locks. I literally cannot emphasize how true this is. Often it’s all too easy to dismiss claims that a treatment can actually reverse damage, but as someone who is constantly trying to maintain long, healthy hair I’ve genuinely noticed a huge difference. Before the treatment, I couldn’t grow my hair past my shoulders and it would constantly break, causing serious spending on (terrible) clip in extensions.
The miracle treatment helps rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of damaged hair. Not only is breakage dramatically reduced, but colour lasts considerably longer. But just how does it work? Olaplex actually penetrates the shaft from the inside out, literally reconnecting the hair strand structure where it was previously broken. It’s applied no differently that a deep conditioning treatment and the extra minutes spent in the hairdressing chair are just oh so worth it. The first time I had it applied by Sam, I simply couldn’t believe the finished texture and look of my hair. Think super swishy, bouncy and smooth! Luckily for us, an array of salons have now incorporated the treatment as a key part of their colour process. It’s also possible to get Olaplex done on its own, without a colour. Better yet, as treatments go, it’s fantastically inexpensive with some salons starting their prices at as little as £25. There’s also at home treatments available here, perfect for spending time over on a Sunday evening. So goodbye frizzy, static, damaged hair and hello soft, silky shiny locks! Have you tried Olaplex?! Let me know what you think!
