‘Five minutes with…’- a new section to The Breton Bird, features a series of casual, playful questions that endeavour to get to know the various designers behind some of my favourite brands. And what a wonderful way to begin by sitting down with Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey, founders of RIXO London, the contemporary womenswear label on everyone’s lips. Having grown up with the same passions and interests, the duo’s vision is realised via the exquisite nature of each hand painted original print; ‘feminine without being girly, relaxed but with a refined edge, RIXO fuses the best of the old and new, being an extension of the founders’ own free-spirited personal style.’ It is this shared vision that has ultimately created the must have brand of the moment, and by the sounds of things, the must have brand for a very long time to come…
Describe RIXO in three words?
H: Fun, wearable and unique.
O: Flattering, quality, vintage.
Who is the RIXO girl? What is she about?
H: She seeks something flattering that she can dress up or dress down, but wants pieces she can still feel comfortable in. She also appreciates quality and timelessness, and she’s not a slave to fashion trends. And that’s why she loves RIXO. Our pieces will last her seasons.
Who would you love to see wearing RIXO?
H:Kate Moss is a firm favourite so I’d love to see her or/ and Sienna Miller in RIXO.
How would you style a RIXO piece?
H: With a vintage bag and lots of jewellery – nothing too contrived or matchy matchy though. We normally have ten seconds before we run out the door, so like to grab our favourite vintage accessories.
What are your three holy grail beauty products?
H: We both have pretty identical holy grail products – Eight hour cream – I’ve been obsessed for years! Moroccan oil for our hair is another definite favourite. Then we both love natural make up so Giorgio Armani shimmer glow is always nice for a light illumination.
Where is your happy place?
H: Designing new RIXO collections or hunting through rails of clothes at a vintage fair/good charity shop. We are both so lucky that we LOVE what we do! But aside from RIXO, being with my family and my six little nieces is my happy place. RIXO has become our world and has taken over both our lives for the past two years. We wouldn’t change it for a second though, as we live, breathe, eat and sleep RIXO- but any time off is spent with family.
What is your motto?
H: Positive thinking.
O: Trust your gut.
And finally- if we only buy one RIXO piece what should it be and why?
H: The Georgia skirt which comes in an array of prints… once you have one you’ll live in it. You can really dress her down with a vintage tee, or jumper in the winter and also team with a killer top for a wedding or even on the beach with a bikini. Comfortable, light and flattering, she is by far the best piece and the only skirt in our wardrobe.
With thanks to the lovely RIXO girls, Henrietta and Orlagh!
